Minute from meeting at KPLL, Copenhagen, 22/3-2002

Present: Per Hyltoft Petersen, Peter Felding, Ari Lahti, Nils Jørgensen, Pål Rustad

Basis for most of the discussions (sorry that this is in Norwegian):

Prosedyrer for databehandling for beregning av referanseintervaller

Correction generally

Peter suggested to use target for X as correction factor for all series with X. Have to look at possible method differences for factor between CAL and X.

Target CAL.

Decided to use reference method values for all components if they exist. Split creatinin in two method groups, enzymatic and Jaffe methods. Ref. values for creatinin should only be used for enzymatic methods, for Jaffe target value from project.

Use correction also for enzymes.

Analytical quality

Suggestion to include measurement uncertainty into quality goals by Per H accepted, and the formula suggested by Pål accepted with the modification by using z=1.65 instead of z=1.96. Ari suggested to use measurement uncertainty function to calculate quality goal for quotients. Ari and Pål discuss this further, but have only academic interest (look beneath).

Calculations show that elimination of reference values by suggested quality goals have limited influence on calculated reference intervals for the majority of components (except for instance Na, albumin). This means that all results can be included for many components which is important to make the subgroups as large as possible.

Elimination of persons with abnormal values

Decided that we use the criteria:

One value outside 5 s

Two values outside 4 s

s is calculated as logarithmic s for all components i.e. s = (lnH - lnL)/4 with reference M=(lnH+lnL)/2.

Peter will judge the reference values for each person before the person is eliminated from the data pool.

Primary subgroup categories

Gender, age, fasting, sample collection time

Oestrogen: Compare oestrogen group with non oestrogen group instead of all against non oestrogen group.

Iceland

Per will produce a new workshop program with theory before lunch and NORIP results after lunch.

Heidi is asked to talk about practical aspects of introducing new reference intervals in the laboratory.

Per S is asked to look at the enzymes

Can Arne be stand in for Leifur to summarise practical problems for the laboratories to carry out the project?

Home site

Decided to publish results as they are produced on the project web home site – shall be the basis of a questionnaire to the participants of the workshop to get questions for the workshop.

Publishing

SJCLI special issue and extract to CCLM.
